   Fandango! is notable among ZZ Top's albums for being their first (and by far the best) release including live material - the original LP had one live side and one studio side. The live side is fab, especially the two short songs that open it, Thunderbird and a scorching Jailhouse Rock, while Backdoor Medley is good but its length probably seemed more justified at the actual concert/5().

   Blessed with their first full-fledged hit album, ZZ Top followed it up with Fandango!, a record split between a side of live tracks and a side of new studio cuts. In a way, this might have made sense, since they were a kick-ass live band, and they do sound good here, but it's hard not to see this as a bit of a wasted opportunity in retrospect.7/

   Odd band out in this trio is ZZ Top, a power blues band from Texas that is still building to the superstar status of BTO and the Doobies. Their third LP, Tres Hombres, surprised everyone by hanging on the charts for a year and a half, and eventually going gold (selling more than , units) and this from a pedestrian trio of musicians.
